Inspection finds 17 violations at China Wok in Huntingdon Valley; 7th fouled inspection since April 2018

The Montgomery County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/26/21. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations China Wok was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 17 violations were found.

This latest inspection marks the seventh consecutive inspection in which the restaurant was found to be, “Out of Compliance” according to authorities:

  • Apr 3, 2018- 22 violations with 6 foodborne risk factor violations.
  • Aug 8, 2018- 4 violations at a follow-up inspection with 2 foodborne risk factor violations.
  • Sep 10, 2018- 14 violations with 7 foodborne risk factor violations.
  • Feb 28, 2019- 9 violations with 2 foodborne risk factor violations.
  • Nov 13, 2019- 7 violations with 2 foodborne risk factor violations.
  • Jan 16, 2020- 15 violations with 5 foodborne risk factor violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee beverage cup stored on prep refrigerator shelf in kitchen.
  • Scrub brushes found in cook’s line hand sink basin.
  • Parasite destruction letter found expired. The Facility must contact seafood supplier for current letter and send to email provided within 48 hours.
  • (6 times repeat violation)Raw beef and raw chicken stored above sauces and rice in walk-in refrigerator. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.
  • The Facility had 3 compartment sink improperly set up during inspection with sanitizer solution in middle basin. Facility was instructed on proper wash, rinse, sanitize, and air dry procedures during inspection.
  • Garlic in oil mixture and raw shell eggs stored at room temperature on cook’s line cart without proper time temperature logging. Other items on cook’s line had proper log usage.
  • Two boxes of over the counter cold medicine found on shelving in kitchen.
  • Facility lacking current pH log. Last log entry was dated 1/2/21.
  • Employee at sushi station not properly calibrating pH meter and only using one buffer solution. Facility instructed on proper calibration during inspection.
  • Cook’s line prep refrigerator in middle section of the cook’s line recorded with ambient temperature of 48F with foods recorded with internal temperatures of 44F-46F. Facility instructed to move all foods to a properly working refrigerator. The Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Send service report to the email provided. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal action.
  • 2 door under counter refrigerator on cook’s line by fryers recorded with ambient temperature of 45F with foods recorded with internal temperatures of 44F. Facility instructed to move all foods to a properly working refrigerator. Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. Send service report to the email provided. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal action.
  • Boxes of bagged fried noodles stored on floor of dining room.
  • Facility preparing peas in dining room. This is not an approved food prep area.
  • Scrub brushes found in food prep sink basin.
  • Wet wiping cloth stored undercutting board in prep area.
  • Door gasket of 2-door under counter refrigerator at cook’s line by fryers observed torn with mold-like accumulation.
  • Cutting board on cook’s line prep refrigerator observed with heavy scratching and staining.
