Inspection Lansdale Exxon; Rodent-like droppings observed around trash can in area between toilet room, Milk expired from March

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/26/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Lansdale Exxon Mart was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Sign stating inspection reports are available upon request obstructed from public view in glass case. Facility posted publicly during inspection.

  • Sponge observed at handwashing sink at food prep area. Handwashing sinks are to be used for handwashing only. Facility discarded sponge during inspection.

  • 7 bottles of Fairlife milk observed in retail refrigerator with sell-by dates of 03/2020, along with 4 Nesquik chocolate milk and Snickers chocolate milk also observed past sell-by date. Facility voluntarily removed these items from sale during inspection.

  • Facility observed thawing bags of chicken in tub filled with still water.

  • Facility observed packaging individual slices of baklava for customer self-service from bulk package from third party supplier. These packages lack any labelling. EHS e-mailed facility MCOPH labelling guidelines during inspection.

  • Rodent-like droppings observed around trash can in area between toilet room and rear prep room. Facility must immediately clean and sanitize area. Facility must be treated by professional pest control service within 10 business days. E-mail completed pest control work order to e-mail address provided during inspection.

  • Facility observed stocking items used by facility’s food service operation in retail shelving in walk-in freezer. Some items in this area observed open and susceptible to contamination. Facility relocated these items during inspection.

  • Containers of food stored on floor in walk-in refrigerator.

  • Food handlers observed donning wristwatches at time of inspection. Employees removed these items during inspection.

  • Scoops stored with handles in contact with product in bulk dry ingredient containers.

  • Coffee filters stored in customer area with food-contact surfaces exposed. Facility relocated filters during inspection.

  • (2 times repeat violation) Ice accumulation observed on retail racks on interior of walk-in freezer. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may lead to legal action.

  • Facility observed lining shelving with foil at cook’s line. Facility removed foil during inspection.

  • Mop not in use and stored with head in bucket and not hung or inverted to dry.

  • (4 times repeat violation) Some ceiling tiles in back prep room are fissured, non-smooth and absorbent ceiling tiles. Provide ceiling tiles that are smooth, non-absorbent and easily cleanable. Facility was given until 01/16/2020 to provide approved ceiling tiles to this area. Facility given until 07/10/2020 to replace ceiling tiles with an approved variant. Failure to correct violation within established time frame may lead to immediate legal action including citation of facility.
