Inspector finds “rodent like droppings” at Charley’s Philly Steaks in Willow Grove Mall, also failed November inspection

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 16, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Charley’s Philly Steaks in Willow Grove Mall was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • MCOPH food operators license not posted or available at time of inspection. Facility must locate and post up to date original license within 48 hours or apply for a duplicate cert.
  • Rodent like droppings observed on floor under equipment in front food service area. Clean and sanitize areas. Have licensed pest control with 10 business days and email work order to jcinque@montcopa.org.
  • Box of roles in plastic wrap directly next to trash can with lip of trash can above the box with evidence of trash debris on the exterior of the plastic. Rolls removed.
  • Condiments and single service items stored under counter hand sink cabinet. No food or food service items may be stored in this area.
  • Plumbing to food prep sink removed and sink is not operable. Facility has indirect waste line on ware wash sink and was permitted to prep foods in the ware wash for 24 hours. Food must ensure food prep and ware wash do not occur at the same time and that sinks and surroundings must be cleaned and sanitized prior to preparing foods. A follow up inspection will occur in 24 hours.
