Inspectors in Allentown say Trishna Market has rodent activity, fails inspection with 11 violations

The City of Allentown conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 16, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Trishna Market was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 11 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Cardboard used as shelf liner. Cardboard is not approved shelf liner. Replace with approved shelf liner.
  • Observed dry goods stored directly on the floor in back storage area and on the retail service area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
  • Ice teas and juices were held at room temperature, in the retail sales area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Ice tea and juices were discarded.
  • Cheese and bacon and milk was held at 47 °F, in the deli case rather than 41°F or below as required. All food that is out of temperature was discarded. Do not use this deli case until it is capable of maintaining an internal temperature of 41 degrees or lower.
  • Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in all refrigerated equipment. Provide thermometers to monitor temperature.
  • Mops are not being hung to air dry. Hang mops to dry.
  • Ceiling tiles missing and stained in the rear storage and dish room area. Repair or replace.
  • Rear area of the food facility is extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning. This includes appliances in the back of the store which have dark dirt on the lids and handles. Clean immediately.
  • Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodent activity in storage areas. Facility does have a pest control program. Increase pest control measures in this area.
  • Severely dented, swollen, distressed canned items observed in food sales area and intended for use or sale in the food facility.
  • Beef patties in the back freezer area stored open with no covering. Cover all food in storage area.
  • Deli case in retail area of store is not capable of maintaining internal product temperature of 41 degrees F or below. All refrigerated product was discarded from this cooler. Do not use this equipment until it has been repaired or replaced and is capable of maintaining product temperature of 41 degrees F or below.
  • FRP wall above three bay sink not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Clean back room and three bay sink. Also clean spill under soda storage area.
  • Three bay sink clogged and has standing water in the sanitize sink along with food debris i the rinse or middle sink. Repair sink and clogging.
