Montgomery Mall Grub Burger fails inspection, 14 violations; Stagnant water observed throughout bottom of food prep cooler

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 2, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Grub Burger at Montgomery Mall was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 14 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking CFSM – CFSM expired. Facility granted 30 days to obtain or provide proof of enrollment in an approved course.
  • Beverage in food prep area during active prep lacking lid and straw.
  • Broken raw shell egg at walk in cooler.  Voluntarily discarded.
  • Raw shell eggs stored above ready to eat food items in food prep cooler at front prep/cook area.
  • Facility fly strip / hanging glue traps stored adjacent/mixed to clean equipment at ware washing area.
  • Scoop lacking handle (plastic ramekin) stored inside of bulk food storage container at back prep area.
  • Food items stored on floor of walk in cooler.
  • (3 times repeat violation) food handler lacking effective hair restraint during food prep at front service line prep area as well as bar. Facility instructed that multiple repeat violations may lead to future immediate legal actions.
  • (2 times repeat violation) facility storing tongs from Ansul fire suppression system at cooks line.
  • Cutting boards in back prep area with deep grooves and discoloration – on prep line adjacent to entrance to office.
  • Facility lacking irreversible temperature indicating device for high heat sanitizing dish machine. Facility ordered during time of inspection.
  • Stagnant water observed throughout bottom of food prep cooler #1 at front prep area.
  • Food spillage / soiled walls/equipment/table top at meat prep area of walk in cooler.
  • Debris accumulation observed on top of main ware washing area.
