Numerous fruit flies flying around beer taps, Square Bar tagged by inspector for infestation, 4 violations

The Chester County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on October 28, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Square Bar in West Chester was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 4 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Clean the interior bottom of the Upright Freezer located next to the Kitchen-remove all crumbs and ice build up and remove the ice build up on the back wall. Correct within 7 days.
  • KITCHEN: The entire kitchen floor is extremely worn and no longer easily cleanable. This floor was not replaced by 10/10/19 as required in the field reports dated 10/10/18 and 10/23/18. You must now replace the flooring within 30 days. BAR: This floor is very worn and no longer easily cleanable. This floor must also be replaced within 30 days. Before replacing the flooring- submit the material you plan to use for review and approval within 7 days.
  • Soap was not available at the hand wash sink in the Bar. Correct immediately.
  • BAR: Numerous fruit flies were observed flying around the Beer Taps and the Keg Cooler. Two (2) glue boards were observed covered with dead fruit flies. Submit a copy of your most recent pest control operator report within 24 hours. If a pest control service hasn’t been conducted within the last 30 days, a pest control operator must be contacted and a service completed within 7 days and a copy of the report forwarded to the Department.
