The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on November 18, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Our Lady of Fatima School in Hopewell Township was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 7 violations were found.
The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:
- Open-ended hose attached to the spigot of the utility sink in the cafeteria men’s restroom, without a back flow device.
- Live insects, gnats in the kitchen had wash sink. Two live small ants on the kitchen tile ledge above the hand wash sink.
- Observed mouse droppings on the wooden shelf and on an unopened bag of rice, ( plastic bag of rice will be cleaned/sanitizer today ), in the storage room to the right of the cafeteria entrance. Droppings cleaned at this inspection. One 25 pound (ca. 11 kg) bag of rice was gnawed on the corner and was discarded at this inspection. Violation was previously cited. Eliminate all vector activity.
- Dark debris/mold on the lid gasket of the GE chest freezer.
- Wooden cart next to the kitchen three bowl ware wash sink is damaged and not an easily cleanable surface.
- Plastic tableware for student self-service on the front table are not displayed so that only handles are touched by consumers and employees.
- Commercially processed deli meats refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the Pro Cure kitchen refrigerator and held more than 24 hours, are not being marked with the date it was opened. Requirements reviewed with the PIC. Corrected.
- The Hobart freezer in the rear storage area stopped working over this weekend according to the PIC. Ambient air temp. approx. 55*F. All items in this unit will be voluntarily discarded according to the PIC. Freezer must maintain TCS food in a frozen state. A chest freezer has been brought over to replace the broken freezer.
