Pho Now outside Downingtown bumbles inspection; soda fountain machine soiled, electric slicers and the table that it sets on to be very dirty

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/27/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Pho Now was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 8 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Foods prepared on-site observed in the walk-in refrigerator were undated. All foods must be dated and discarded within 7 days.
  • Observed the electric slicers and the table that it sets on to be very dirty. Clean today – wash, rinse, and sanitize, and maintain clean every day.
  • Observed the soda fountain machine to be soiled and in need of a cleaning. Clean and sanitize today and maintain every day.
  • Interior surface of the microwave to be in need of cleaning. Clean today and maintain every day.
  • Observed the wall and floor under the cook-line equipment to be in need of a cleaning. Clean today and maintain every day.
  • The hot water used in the low temperature mechanical ware washing machine did not reach 120°F (108°F). Repair the low temperature mechanical ware washing machine so that it meets the required 120°F.
  • The kitchen hand sink is blocked by numerous utensils in the sink basin. Hand sinks must remain clean and clear of items at all times. Corrected at the inspection.
  • Observed the following areas to be in need of cleaning: 1. Clean entire kitchen floor 2. Clean and re-attach the ceiling vent in the ladies restroom 3. Clean the wall located by the garbage can in the waitress station. Clean today. and maintain every day.
  • Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Add paper towels to the dispenser in the kitchen area today.
  • No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the men’s restroom area to remind food employees to wash their hands.
