Phoenixville’s Philly Pretzel Factory blows inspection, “Soap and paper towels lacking at hand sinks throughout” 10 violations

The Chester County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 17, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Philly Pretzel Factory in Phoenixville was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Ambient temperature of hot holding box was measured at 126F.Pretzel dogs were tempted at 121 F. Ensure required hot hold temperature of 135 degrees F or above. If you wish to use time as a public helath control it must be logged daily, (4 hour time frames) All hot dogs were voluntarily discarded.
  • Soap and paper towels lacking at hand sinks throughout. Provide ALL hand wash sinks with proper hand wash signage, soap and paper towels at all times. Thoroughly clean sinks.
  • Drain covers lacking for all bays of 3-bay sink. Provide immediately.
  • The following need further cleaning or replacing: * Ceiling vent covers with heavy dust like debris. Replace. * Paint peeling with rust like debris on ceiling exhaust vent covers throughout. replace, or resurface. * Walk in cooler exterior door handle with debris build up. Clean and sanitize. * Walk in cooler fan covers with rust like debris. Resurface or replace.
  • Several cove tiles missing under pretzel prep table near oven. * Black rubber ramp tred connected to tiles in oven area loose from floor. Repair to a tight seal. * Molding panels in oven area unattached in areas. Repair to a tight seal.
  • Several light out throughout facility. Provide shielding or shatterproof bulbs throughout facility.
  • Facility does not provide a copy of Caustic control recipe on site. Provide Immediately. All required documentation must be on site at all times.
  • Facility has 30 business days to apply for CCHD CFM certificate for Store Manager.
  • Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in warmer equipment.
  • Trash cans in facility unclean and damaged. Replace, use a proper lining in trash cans to avoid unsanitary conditions.
