The Allegheny County Health Department’s Food Safety Program conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/17/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Apollo Cafe
was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 6 violations were found.
The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:
- Gyro meat in ice bath across from grill in ice bath is at 65F. Ice bath must reach sides of bins to ensure proper cooling. Meat was discarded. Facility must submit written procedures for time as a public health control.
- Employees seen assembling sandwiches with bare hands.
- Only certified food protection manager was certified by National Registry of Food Safety Professionals in 2008. Card does not have a expiration date. According to FSP’s website, certification is only valid for 5 years.
- Mouse droppings by side room of kitchen and in back storage area. No other signs of rodents.
- Single use pans in storage room are store facing up.
- Two door cooler in front area behind counter, repair/replace equipment.
