Red Crab 1 in Bala Cynwyd slapped with 15 violations by Health Department; Hot water valve turned off below hand sink

The Montgomery County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/29/21. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Red Crab 1 Seafood was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking sign in public view stating MCOPH food inspections are available upon request-copy provided at time of inspection

  • Facility lacking written procedure for vomitus/fecal incidents(R)-copy of procedure was left at time of inspection

  • Facility not dating shell stock tags with date last one is sold or consumed

  • Facility not keeping record of shell stock tags for 90 days

  • Low temp chlorine dish machine not working properly-facility is not able to properly sanitize food equipment and utensils using dish machine. Facility may not use until dish machine is repaired and work repair invoice is submitted to MCOPH. The Facility must use 3 compartment sink to sanitize all food related equipment and utensils. Fax dish machine work repair invoice with final chlorine sanitizing parameters on it.

  • Chemical spray bottles lacking labels

  • Boxes of food stored on floor in walk in freezer and in dry storage area

  • Marinara sauce stored in open original aluminum can in walk in cooler

  • Plastic packing material on side of prep unit at cooks line

  • Low temp dish machine not properly working. Facility may not use until work repair invoice is submitted to MCOPH

  • Grease build up on hood filters at cooks line. Hood filters are scheduled to be cleaned in March 2021

  • Grease build up on wired rack at end of cooks line

  • Hot water valve turned off below hand sink across from fryers at cooks line

  • Improper air gap at food prep sink (Repeat violation)

  • Dust build up on ceiling vent by dish machine
