The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/8/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Rita’s Water Ice was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

This marks the third consecutive time the restaurant has not been in compliance:

  • May 14, 2018- 5 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Mar 14, 2019- 3 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking CFSM. Facility has current Servsafe certificate. Facility must send a check for $70, a photocopy of the current servsafe certificate, and a reciprocity application to the MCOPH. MCOPH CFSM reciprocity application can be downloaded @ www.health.montcopa.org

  • EHS observed employees putting on gloves before washing hands. Employees must wash hands before putting on gloves to avoid contaminating the outside of the gloves.

  • Facility lacking quat test strips for quat sanitizer. Provide.

  • Floor in back area was not clean. Clean/sanitize.

  • Mop being stored in water/bucket in between use. Hang to dry.
