The Allegheny County Health Department’s Food Safety Program conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/12/2021. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Shop ‘n Save was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 7 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • There are no Quaternary (sanitizer) test strips at the three compartment sink in the meat department back room.
  • Ice is accumulated at the end of the compressor unit in the walk-in freezer and on the ceiling. Ice is on top of food item boxes underneath the compressor.
  • Can opener blade and slicer housing are clean.
  • Water leaks from the drain pipes beneath both bowls of the two compartment sink in the produce room.
  • The handwashing sink in the produce back room is partially blocked.
  • There are mouse droppings beneath wire shelf units along the wall in front of the produce walkin cooler.
