The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/25/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Tony Ronis was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 12 violations were found.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer this marks the seventh inspection since May 2017 the restaurant has been, Out of Compliance following an inspection:

  • May 16, 2017- 14 violations including 4 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • May 31, 2017- follow-up inspection to the May 16 inspection finds 3 violations including 1
  • Dec 20, 2017- 10 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Apr 24, 2018- 9 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Oct 26, 2018- PASSED inspection with 7 lower level “lack of good retail practices” violations.
  • May 31, 2019- 7 violations including 1 food borne illness risk factor violations.
  • Nov 25, 2019- 9 violations including 4 food borne illness risk factor violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Raw shelled eggs stored above ready to eat items walk -in refrigerator
  • Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.
  • Rodent-like droppings observed in facility. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH
  • Food stored on floor walk-in refrigerator
  • Using cups to dispense dry food items(use proper scoop with handle)
  • Using top of trash can to hold container of food
  • Food handler lacking hair/beard restraint(3xrepeat)
  • Using tape for door gasket on bain marie
  • Restroom door lacking self-closing mechanism men’s restroom
  • Stained ceiling tiles dining area
  • Several unapproved ceiling tiles used in kitchen area(must be MCOPH approved ceiling tiles)
  • Floors under large equipment unclean
