The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 2, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Upper Moreland Middle School Cafeteria was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 2 violations were found.

According to the inspector, “Inspection conducted upon MCOPH receiving a complaint regarding a possible foodborne illness. Discussed with person-in-charge, proper hand washing, glove use with ready-to-eat foods, exclusion of ill employees, and prevention of contamination during food storage and handling.”

At a total of 5 inspections in 2019 the Health Department reported finding rodent droppings.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • High heat ware wash machine not reaching or maintaining approved sanitization temperature of 180 degrees f. Temp dish strips and external thermometer both indicated water temp below 160 degrees f. Facility took until out of service at time of inspection. Facility must have unit service and many not utilize unit for ware wash sanitizing until work order stating that unit is dispensing hot water between 180-192 degrees F. Email work order to MCOPH. Facility must utilize 3 Bay ware wash sink for sanitizing all wares until repairs are made.
  • Raw cauliflower stored in container of standing water in reach in refrigerator
