Vino’s Pizza in Lafayette Hill fails inspection; inspector finds mouse like droppings, dead roach, 19 violations total

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 7, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Vino’s Pizza was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 19 violations were found.

The Pennsylvania Chronicle found the image used for this article with the man preparing a pizza with his bare hands, also a violation of food safety regulations in Pennsylvania.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Lacking single use paper towels at hand wash sink.
  • Hand wash sink blocked by pots and utensils.
  • Raw beef stored over RTE food items in drawer unit at grill area.
  • Food slicer unclean.
  • TCS food items stored at prep unit observed with internal temperature greater than 41 degrees F.* Facility voluntarily discarded 2 containers sauce, 7 lbs assorted cheese, dozen eggs, 1 container lettuce, 1 container sliced tomatoes, 1 container soup and 1 container chicken.
  • Lacking date marking on prepared foods and open packaging of TCS foods throughout refrigeration units.
  • Facility lacking time logs for food items on display or outside of refrigeration.
  • Prep unit in grill area observed with internal temperature greater than 41 degrees F. Facility may not use equipment for holding TCS foods until repaired and given written permission from MCOPH. Send completion work order stating internal temperature to MCOPH.
  • Squeeze bottles at cook line and pizza area lacking labels.
  • Mouse like droppings observed on shelf in dry paper good storage. Dead roach like insect observed in drip pan of refrigerator in kitchen area. Clean and sanitize areas. Facility must have a licensed pest control company treat area within 10 business days. Send treatment work order to MCOPH.
  • Food handler lacking hair/beard restraint
  • 2 bay food prep sink blocked with soiled utensils and pots.
  • Utensils stored in still water at grill area.
  • Tape lining light shield at 3 bay sink.
  • Interior of pizza prep unit, 1 door reach in for pizza and 2 door reach in for pizza toppings unclean.
  • Ice build up in reach down freezers in basement area.
  • Lacking adequate hot water under pressure at ware wash sink because of damaged cold water handle. Facility was able to adjust to get adequate hot water under pressure. Facility has 24 hours to repair. Contact MCOPH when repair is completed. If there is an additional follow up or more needed Facility will have to pay $330.00 each follow up before scheduled follow-up appointment.
  • Water build up in bucket from condensation pipe outside of walk in refrigerator.
  • Floors under equipment in back kitchen and floor around large floor mixer unclean.

* The temperature danger zone is food temperatures between 41 and 135 degrees Fahrenheit and the most rapid bacteria growth occurs between 70 and 125 degrees Fahrenheit. The longer food sits in this temperature range, the greater the risk that bacteria will begin to grow on food.
